The Dreaming Ones, also called Burrowers, are large worm-like creatures that inhabit the mountains of Naggaroth. They eat through stone, leaving great tunnels called burrows behind.
Legends tell that the Dreaming Ones existed in an era before the Old Ones came. Ruling an empire that stretched from the world’s core to the surface, they went into dormancy at one point. Only their children remained, slumbering in the deep places of the world.[1b] A group of active Burrowers nested near Hag Graef, where their tunnels had appeared hundred years after the founding of the city.[1a] The witch Nagaira found a way to awaken these Dreaming Ones and hoped to direct the enraged beings against Hag Graef to destroy the city, but the compulsion vanished with the witch's defeat.[1b]
