"Brandy? I have a bottle from Angoumelle, just north of Chalons Forest. It is very fine."
- —Davio Maurizzi to Angelika Fleischer[1]
Davio Maurizzi is a former Tilean mercenary and the self-proclaimed "prince" of the town of Castello del Dimenticato in the Border Princes. Some called him a "border prince," which was a title anyone who lived in those lawless lands could claim for themselves, especially if they occupied a defensible position and had a few troops willing to pick up swords on theirbehalf.[1]
Maurizzi is Tilean, which explained his town's foreign name, the Castello del Dimenticato, which meant "Fortress of the Forgotten."[1]
Appearance[]
Nothing about Maurizzi's looks would draw the envy of a true king. His elbows stuck out, adding majesty to his narrow frame. Downy hair, the colour and length of a mouse's, covers his wide-crowned head. Round ears angled out and forward from his skull; they should have seemed humorous, but instead, suggested pinprick alertness. Well-earned lines had etched themselves around the comers of his mouth and nose. Despite the weary semi-circles beneath them, he possessed piercing grey eyes.[1]
Maurizzi wears a wrinkled, fox-trimmed coat that drops down to his ankles, over a long shirt covering him to mid-thigh. Velvet slippers, in royal purple, swaddle his feet, which are big and shaped like oar paddles.[1]
