Banner of Clan Verms
Clan Verms is a pitiful Skaven Warlord Clan, shunned and reviled by all others, even those lesser clans who cannot hope to compete with its rather limited power. Verms has an affinity with insects, bugs, and other types of vermin. Many species of over-sized insects, spiders, and the like that exist in the Under-Empire have been attributed to the experiments of Clan Verms.[1a]
History[]
In ages past, Clan Verms numbered among those clans with a seat on the Council of Thirteen, with Blight Tenscratch, the Wormlord and leader of the clan, as its representative. Rising to prominence thanks to the trade with worm-oil, which was needed to lighten the tunnels of the Under-Empire, as well as exterminating infestations of fleas and ticks, the clan used to have a secure position. Within their possession were more exotic creatures that were used as war-beasts, like the giant Deathwalkers, assassins and highly poisonous spiders.[2a] At this time, the clan resided in Skavenblight in a location known only as "the Hive," which served as their main breeding centre. This location was put to the torch during the Black Plague in 1111 IC, when infected fleas carried a variant of the disease to several Skaven, which caused the Council of Thirteen to announce a culling of Clan Verms.[2c]
During the Black Plague, Clan Verms cooperated with Clan Pestilens to spread the disease, selling fleas that were infected with the plague that were then carried into the cities of Men on the backs of rats. Seeking an ally, Blight Tenscratch sought to conspire with Poxmaster Puskab Foulfur to replace Arch-Plaguelord Nurglitch IV.[2a] When an assassination attempt against Nurglitch IV failed and the clan was culled for spreading the plague in the Under-Empire, the Wormlord attempted to install Puskab Foulfur as a new Lord of Decay by aiding him in the trials that were needed to assume a seat, in this case that of Nurglitch IV. In the end, the Wormlord was betrayed by Puskab, who instead sided with his own clan, defeated him for HIS seat on the council and thus gained for Clan Pestilens an unprecedented two seats on the Council of Thirteen.[2d]
Afterwards, worm-oil was replaced with warpstone lanterns crafted by Clan Skryre, making the most important trading good of Clan Verms obsolete.[2b] Having no real allies and having been one of the greater clans that were the most detested, Clan Verms fell from grace into its modern, precarious situation, replaced as the breeders of monsters in the Under-Empire by Clan Moulder.
