Chamon Dharek is an ancient burial ground of the Kurgan tribe in the Troll Country of Kislev that is a potent source of Dark Magic as well as Chamon.
History[]
North of the Tobol Delta an estuary leads into a hilly region wherein lies Chamon Dharek, a great and ancient burial mound, sacred to the Kurgan people and strong with tainted power. It is notable for countless mummified horses surrounding it, some standing, others fallen and shattered, and within it is a vast treasure in gold and gems. The treasure is cursed, however, and not even the foul reavers of the north dare to touch it.[1a][2a]
Sacred to the Kurgan, the mound becomes a winter encampment for them and even some Sarl. No bloodshed is permitted close by, and despite a myth of jewels and silver buried within, even these wild raiders leave it undisturbed.[2a] Raiders from various northern factions often winter here, and members of different factions can stay without too much bloodshed, as the respect they hold for the location restrains them from overt war. Even in the summer, there are normally warriors and shaman-sorcerers of the Ruinous Powers here.[1a]
The ethnically Ungol Kislevite nomads of the Troll Country are careful to stay as far away from the cursed place as they can.[1a] The local Ungols ride clear of the place even in summer, as worshippers of Chaos make pilgrimage here all year round. However, such is the sacredness of the site that even outsiders are tolerated if they show respect. Some speculate too much blood spilt on ground close to the mound might invoke some horror even the Kurgan fear.[2a]
Chamon Dharek is known for its powerful magical aura, tainted with Dhar. However, perceptive wizards sense zephyrs of Chamon, the Yellow Wind of Magic, here, too. This phenomenon has become bound to a myth of a sea-witch who could cleave a foe's ship in twain with a mighty blade. Perhaps there was such a spell, but researchers of the Gold Order at the Colleges of Magic in Altdorf have conjectured that the description could refer to a buried artefact -- a magical naval ram. It's possible someone sought to hide this weapon's magic behind a darker aura.[2a]
