Catinari was a small, ethnically Tilean principality in the Border Princes ruled by Prince Catinari I, who now leads a group of refugees after their realm was overrun by Orcs.[1a]

History[]

The refugees are survivors from the Principality of Catinari, which was recently overrun by Orcs. After the fall of their homeland, they sought refuge in the mountains near the Black Fire Pass. Prince Catinari and his people have been surviving in harsh conditions, scavenging for food and searching for a safe place to settle.[1a]

Although described as a thug, Catinari genuinely cares for the well-being of his people. He does not wish to resort to banditry but knows that if they cannot find a secure sanctuary before winter, they will be forced to turn to crime in order to survive. Catinari leads a group of refugees, primarily women, children, and the infirm, while his few remaining men are labeled as "bandits." The refugees have no permanent shelter and are struggling to find a new home.[1a]

Prince Catinari seeks assistance from the other inhabitants of Black Fire Pass. His hope is that the surrounding settlements might offer sanctuary or employ his people, particularly in roles like scouts for the Dwarfs or labourers, as many of the refugees are skilled craftsmen. Despite negotiations between the Sigmarites and the Tileans of Catinari, the situation remains tense. Any provocation between the two parties would likely result in open conflict.[1a]
