Cal Gerrico and Scabretto

Cal Gerrico and Scabretto[1a]

The duellist Cal Gerrico and his foul-smelling manservant Scabretto are two Tilean adventurers who rely more on luck than on skill to survive their misadventures.[1a]

Gerrico once abandoned his future wife Yolanda Catalli at the altar, but fate had it that they would meet again in the most absurd of ways.[1a]

History[]

Cal Gerrico vs Sagat, I mean, Dahl Van Feg

Cal Gerrico's duel against Dahl Van Feg[1a]

They said to go east, that to the east, you would find fortune and glory, words enough to convince any son of Tilea. And so, Gerrico decided to cross the endless seas in search of riches and adventure. But he failed miserably. It seemed that Gerrico had trusted the wrong ship; it sank, but he and his faithful companion managed to escape in a lifeboat. With light hearts, knowing that the ship hadn’t been carrying women or children, they found themselves without food, condemned to certain death. Then, suddenly, a miracle—another ship spotted them and brought them aboard.[1a]

Unfortunately, the ship was part of a group of ill-intentioned pirates. However, Gerrico used his silver tongue to talk his way out of trouble. He asked to join the crew, but to do so, he would have to abide by the Pirate Code, which meant he had to face off against a crew member.[1a]

Stepping forward was Dahl Van Feg, a pit fighter to whom Gerrico had once cut off a hand. But only Scabretto seemed to remember that, him and Van Feg to be precise. The man charged at Gerrico in a rage. The pitfighter was about to win, but by bad luck, he tripped over Jerico’s boarding pike, which had already been knocked to the ground. Van Feg, never the sharpest tool in the box, was quickly forgotten by the crew.[1a]

Yolanda Catalli

At that point, to become an official crew member, Gerrico only had to recite the Pirate Oath in front of the captain. Too bad the captain of the ship was none other than his fiancée. The woman was furious, not only because he had abandoned her but also because of the scandal that had ruined her family’s reputation.[1a]

However, before she could take her revenge, Gerrico rolled a barrel of rum into the hold. Something made it explode, sinking the ship and its crew, sending the duo back to square one.[1a]
