Brood Horrors (sing. Brood Horror) are the greatest and most bloated of the Giant Rat species of the Old World, created and formed when one individual of a Giant Rat litter begins to mutate extraordinarily fast and begins to feast and devour the rest of its litter, growing at an alarming rate whilst increasing in both strength and savagery.[1a]
Sometimes this process is natural, with the cannabalistic whelp eating its siblings alive and growing fat and twisted as a result.[2a]
A Brood Horror is a hideous beast often exploited by the Skaven's Clan Moulder.
Due to these creatures' reputation, Brood Horrors are highly prized by the Moulder Masters of the Skaven's Clan Moulder and are only traded to the greatest of the Warlord Clans, for only they have the wealth to pay Moulder's exorbitant prices.[1a]
Many Skaven pay entire fortunes of Warpstone or thousands of slaves in order to purchase the opportunity for the creature to be used as a powerful mount of war by many aspiring Skaven Warlords. Other times Brood Horrors are simply prodded onto the battlefield and sent towards their enemies in a killing frenzy, tearing and grinding everything in their path.[1a]
