Broken Nose

The Broken Nose Tribe is an infamous clan of Goblins.[1a][2b][3b][4a]

Original background (1987)

"Wot yer waiting for? Wot, you, waitin', for? Go, an', gettem."

—Warboss Boggrub, ordering his lieutenant Gutbug to gather his forces

[1a]

The Broken Nose tribe spent years battling through the Worlds Edge Mountains, led by Boggrub Legbiter.[1a]

At the Battle of Karak Azul they captured two Dwarf war engines, Skull Crusher and Lead Belcher, and since then nothing stood in their way.[1a]

After that, they crossed the Black Fire Pass and made their camp next to its western mouth. As they were preparing their most ambitious campaign to date - an expedition into the fringes of the Empire - they were attacked by another Dwarf army.[1a] The result of this battle is unknown.

Their forces at this battle included:[1a]

  • Gutbug - Bogrub's lieutenant.[1a]
  • Stink, Ratbrain and Pussboil - Goblin champions.[1a]
  • Skull Crusher - A Dwarf Trebuchet which was captured by the tribe at the Battle of Karak Azul. The weapon magically ignites its ammunition, turning a conventional stone into a ball of fire.[1a]
  • Lead Belcher - Another of the tribe's acquisitions from the Dwarfs, Lead Belcher is an Organ Gun, comprising three small bombards and one howitzer.[1a]
  • Badbreath's Beaters - 6 Trolls.

Reviewed background (7th-8th Edition)

In 2470 IC, the Goblin Warlord Boggrub Legbiter led the Broken Nose tribe against the Dwarfs of Karak Azul,[2b][3b] capturing from them many war machines,[3b] two of which they dubbed the Skull Crusher and the Lead Belcher.[2b]

Armed with these terrible machineries of destruction, Boggrub carved a path of destruction through the Worlds Edge Mountains and into Averland.[2b][3b]

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's 3rd Edition

The Broken Nose Goblins are one of the most successful of the various Goblin tribes that plague the Worlds Edge Mountains and the surrounding areas. In ages past the tribes were instrumental in the capture of Dwarf holds such as Karak Azgul.[4b]

For Goblins they have a reputation for professionalism, and have even been known to follow orders of some tactical complexity. Orc warlords often come to agreements with the Broken Nose Goblins, hiring their warriors to perform the role of scouts or archers.[4b]

Location

In Warhammer Armies: Orcs & Goblins (7th Edition), Waaagh! Boggrub starts around Fire Mountain and marches north into Karak Azul and Karak Eight Peaks.[2a] This is consistent with the early stages of their campaign across the Worlds Edge Mountains and into the Black Fire Pass and Averland, described in both that book[2b] and Warhammer Armies: Orcs & Goblins (8th Edition).[3b] In the 8th Edition map, however, the Broken Nose tribe is marked as settled in the northern Apuccini Mountains.[3a]

A Journey to Black Fire Pass

In this RPG supplement, a small contingent of Broken Nose Goblins, led by Wolf Rider Datzda Shiznit, accompany Boss Gnashrukk's Orc scouts in their surveillance of Black Fire Pass.[4a] It is unclear whether they are from the same tribe that took part in Waaagh! Boggrub.
