The Bowmen of Oreon is a renowed Wood Elf regiment led by Prince Oreon.[1a]

History[]

Oreon

Prince Oreon, commander of the Bowmen of Oreon[1a]

All Wood Elves are noted for their skills with the bow. From amongst his father's people, Prince Oreon chose the very best archers and woodsmen and assembled this famous Wood Elven regiment. With his company, Oreon left his homeland and joined the crusading armies of the Elven lord Staloerd. He fought with distinction at the assault upon the necromantic fortress of the evil wizard Dornbast, and eventually returned home after the destruction of Dornbast's Goblin armies. It was in hand-to-hand combat with the necromancer himself that Oreon lost an eye.[1a]

Oreon's company wear the traditional hunting green of the Wood Elves, with full capes and hoods. In addition to their Elfbow, each warrior carries a shield, sword, long knife, and two quivers. The company proved more than willing to get stuck in, and after their return to the Greenwoods formed the basis of its defence.[1a]

Oreon himself grew sullen over the years and took to brooding over the loss of his eye and vitality -- a result of the wound, inflicted as it was by a potent and evil magical weapon. One day he left his home and was never seen again. It is said that he went in search of his lost eye. The tale is told at some length in the popular lay known as Oreon's Folly.[1a]

Uniform[]

The Bowmen of Oreon

The Bowmen of Oreon all wear green tunics and breeches with weather-stained green cloaks and hoods. Long leather boots are worn with turned-down tops. Oreon himself wears a similar uniform as his warriors, but in a more elaborate cut.[1a]

Wargear[]

Each Bowmen of Oreon is outfitted with a long sword, knife, Elfbow and two quivers of arrows. The Bowmen of Oreon adopted a device depicting two arrows on a tree for their round shields. Outfitted in this way, the Bowmen of Oreon can serve as both ranged and if necessary, melee light infantry.[1a]
