"For seven thousand years we have fought against the dark gods. It will not be here, in this distant field, that our strength finally fails. Here we will triumph, and you shall all be remembered alongside the greatest warriors of our people. Destroy the darkness!"

—Aurelion, addressing her Elven troops during the Siege of Talabheim.[1]

Aurelion was a High Elf Mage of Saphery, a Princess, and a relative of the Phoenix King Finubar.[1]

History

An Elf of distant Ulthuan and acolyte of Teclis himself, Aurelion was young for her race, although still several hundred years old. Like most High Elves, she was dismissive of the abilities of Men, and saw them as a necessary nuisance and uncomfortable allies. Cultured and softly spoken, she spoke the language of Men in a cold, efficient manner that did little to mask her natural arrogance.[1]

During the Great War Against Chaos, Aurelion led a defence of Ulthuan against an army led by the Dark Elf Sorceress Lilaeth. When Lilaeth's army was destroyed, Aurelion chose to spare Lilaeth rather than kill her because she believed it would cause her more pain to live with her failure.[1]

After the Great War was over, Aurelion, alongside her cousin Prince Khalanos, travelled to the Empire and assisted the young Captain von Kessel in his efforts to purge the remnants of Chaos. Alas, Khalanos was later slain in battle by a mighty Daemon Prince of Khorne.[1][2]

Ultimately, Aurelion and Stefan would lead the defence of Talabheim against that very Daemon Prince, Thorgar the Blooded One. At the height of the battle, Stefan, mounted atop a noble Griffon, engaged Thorgar in an epic duel. Eventually, the Daemon Prince was able to cast down the young Elector's mount, even as the warrior's Runefang pierced his unholy flesh. As he prepared to kill Stefan, Thorgar was suddenly engulfed in a blast of magical flame. Aurelion could not harm the Daemon Prince, but she was able to distract him. With his attention turned towards the Elf, the cannon batteries of Talebheim unleashed a payload of destruction upon Thorgar, banishing him to the Realm of Chaos. With their leader destroyed, the fell hordes soon broke and fled. Talebheim was saved.[1][2]

Following their victory over the Northmen, Aurelion remained for a time in the Empire, but was ultimately hunted down by her old foe, Lilaeth. The Sorceress taunted Aurelion, claiming that there was no army to protect her this time. Following a short but intense duel, Lilaeth emerged the victor. Aurelion vehemently claimed that the Witch King would never sit upon the Phoenix Throne, and that Lilaeth's little victory meant nothing; Lilaeth responded by killing her and dedicating her sacrifice to Khaine...[1]

Trivia

  • In the Mark of Chaos novel, Aurelion died at the battle of Talabheim, cut down by Thorgar after she distracted him from an unconscious Stefan. However, this was later retconned in Battle March, the DLC sequel to the first game, which had her survive the battle only to later be killed by Lilaeth.
