Arnulf found himself at the center of a failed assault on a local Orc stronghold. In the aftermath, Count Einhard dispatched him to the Tilean city-state of Luccini with a crucial mission—to hire mercenaries for the upcoming assault.[1a]
As Arnulf approached Luccini, he encountered a group of bandits, swiftly dispatching them before gaining entry to the city. Despite facing another attack in an alley, Arnulf's skills prevailed, leading him to a meeting with Prince Lorenzo Lupo. Once the mission was explained, Lorenzo not only showed him hospitality but also offered the services of a company of Ogres, as he was unwilling to spare any of his pikemen.[1a]
Amidst lavish entertainment, Arnulf considered other regiments but ultimately settled on the troublesome Ogres, who were readily available. While waiting for their retrieval from the dungeons, he explored Lorenzo's palazzo adorned with paintings by Tintorezzi depicting the Triumph of Death, the Triumph of Lorenzo, and the unfinished Triumph of Love, which featured scantily clad nymphs posing as models.[1a]
The journey back to Count Einhard's castle took two weeks, during which the Ogres, led by the infamous Golgfag,[1a][1b] proved their mettle against a horde of Goblins and Trolls. Arnulf's return marked not only the success of his mission but also a newfound appreciation for the princes of Tilea and a growing disillusionment with Count Einhard's leadership.[1a]
