Dividing the lands of eastern Tilea and the Border Princes, the Apuccini Mountains (or the Apuccinis,[1a], Appuccinis,[5a], Appucinis,[6a] or Puccini Mountains)[9a] are generally avoided by Human travellers, since there are numerous bandit strongholds, Goblin caves and the dwellings of other evil creatures. The mountains are thickly wooded along both eastern and western slopes, and there are no Dwarf populations as far as is known.[1a]
The mountains are also a renowned source of white marble, which Tilea is known to export as far north as Kislev.[2a] Or the pink-veined Trantine extracted from the quarries near Trantio.[4a]
Some of the Apuccini Mountains reach heights of ten thousand feet and more.[3]
"The Goat herd of Appuccini" is a very popular song in the Old World.[5a]
Notable Locations[]
Dark Maiden Pass[]
The Dark Maiden Pass , also known as Stretto Pass,[8] is a road named after a mithological figure of the Cult of Myrmidia, Princess Nahmud, which links Tilea across the Apuccinis with the Border Princes[7a]
Trivia[]
The Apuccini Mountains are the fantasy equivalent of the Italian Appennine Mountains, the name instead is a tribute to Giacomo Puccini an Italian composer known primarily for his operas. His most renowned works are La bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904), and Turandot (1924), all of which are among the most frequently performed and recorded of all operas.
