The Apuccini Mountains which divide eastern Tilea from the Border Princes

The Apuccini Mountains, also called the Apuccinis,[1a], Appuccinis,[5a], Appucinis,[6a] or Puccini Mountains[9a], divide the lands of eastern Tilea from the Border Princes. They are generally avoided by Human travellers, since there are numerous bandit strongholds, Goblin caves and the dwellings of other evil creatures. The mountains are thickly wooded along both their eastern and western slopes, and there are no Dwarf populations within them as far as is known.[1a]

The Goblin activity in the Apuccini Mountains has sealed the frontier between Tllea and the Border Princes. Merchants there are rumored to be paying up to five times the normal price for anything bought from Tilea.[10a]

The mountains are also a renowned source of white marble, which Tilea is known to export as far north as Kislev.[2a] They are also the source of the pink-veined Trantine marble extracted from the quarries near Trantio.[4a]

Some of the Apuccini Mountains reach heights of ten thousand feet and more.[3]

The Goat Herd of Appuccini is a very popular song in the Old World.[5a]

Notable Locations[]

Dark Maiden Pass[]

The Dark Maiden Pass, also known as Stretto Pass,[8] is a road named after a mythological figure of the Cult of Myrmidia, Nahmud the Dark Maiden, which links Tilea across the Apuccinis with the Border Princes[7a]

Trivia[]

The Apuccini Mountains are the fantasy equivalent of the Italian Appennine Mountains. Their name instead is a tribute to Giacomo Puccini an Italian composer known primarily for his operas. His most renowned works are La bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904), and Turandot (1924), all of which are among the most frequently performed and recorded of all operas.
