At some point in his career, Alaric the Mad devised a new Master Rune, the Master Rune of Ages. This rune was a more powerful variant of the Master Rune of Kingship, but such was the power of the rune, no substance could take the strain of bearing it. However, upon finding some [[Warpstone]] ore, Alaric was finally able to craft an item bearing this powerful rune. This item was the [[Nemesis Crown]], and upon realising his folly, Alaric hid the crown deep beneath the [[Great Forest]] of the Empire. There the crown lay hidden, until an earthquake opened its hiding place. This prompted the events of the Nemesis Crown campaign. |

Alaric the Mad is a legendary Dwarf Runesmith, who is credited with the creation of the 12 Runefangs of the Empire Elector Counts, as well as other potent rune weapons. He also forged his own Master Rune, the Master Rune of Alaric the Mad.
The Founding of The Empire
Little is written of the life and work of Alaric the Mad, prior to the founding of the Empire. Clearly he was a Runesmith of great renown, for he was tasked by High King Kurgan Ironbeard to create the 12 Runefangs of the Empire as a gift to Sigmar following his coronation as the first Emperor. Work on the Runefangs was started in IC 1 and was not completed until around IC 100. Alaric personally presented the completed Runefangs to Emperor Hedrich, who passed them to the 12 Elector Counts.
