The great and colossal Al-Haikk, also called El-Haikk or Alhaka, and commonly known as the City of Thieves, is the capital of Araby, and home to the mighty Great Sultan.[3a]

History[]

Since the reunification of Araby, after the destruction of Bel-Aliad, Al-Haikk has remained the central power of the Arabyan Empire, where the Golden Thrones of the Great Sultan stand mighty among the dunes. It is a merchant city, where maritime trade plays a vital role, and it is thanks to this that its shipyards and ports are numerous.[3a][7a]

It was here that Jaffar staged his coup, overthrowing the Great Sultan of the moment with the help of the perfidious Skaven. The city acted as his center of power, and the Palace of the Great Sultan was transformed into a place of sorcery and evil. After being defeated in his military campaign, Jaffar was forced to flee back to Araby, taking refuge first in Copher, and later in Al-Haikk. In this city he awaited his great army, trusting that the brutal desert would destroy his enemies. But a great revolt doomed Jaffar's cause. The people of Al-Haikk, along with part of the nomadic warriors and nobles discontented with Jaffar, revealed themselves, driving him out of the city along with his host. At the Battle of Al-Haikk, Jaffar and his army found themselves caught between the Crusader forces and the rebels, and were crushingly defeated.[1a][2a] At this time, a vampire of the Lahmians named Serutat infiltrated the court of Jaffar, where she found many ears that listened to her whispers. But nothing more was heard of her after the arrival of the old worldlings.[8a]

Soon after, the rightful Great Sultan regained the throne of Araby. He expelled the Knights of Origo from Fyrus, and sought the protection of all his subjects throughout the peninsula, reviving trade. His power has remained incorruptible ever since. For centuries, the Golden Thrones of Al-Haikk have defended the Arabyans from invaders, driving all evil from their lands.[3a][6]

The City[]

The winding and colorful streets of Al-Haikk stretch as far as the eye can see. Its streets are full of vermin and thieves, who give the city its name. Above the markets and bazaars, the immense palaces with high vaults and white stone rise. The largest of them all is the Palace of the Great Sultan. This is famous for its wealth and luxury, with large libraries overflowing with ancient and unique books, and with temples decorated with idols of the Djinns, the gods of Araby. The wonders of its gardens are indescribable, and hundreds of exotic creatures and captivating scents are found among plants from distant lands.[1a][3a][4a][5a]
