The Skaven are actually not based on any real life regime or country; instead, they represent and embody the Old World’s perspective on technology as imbalanced, unpredictable, and unreliable. In addition, they symbolize the lack of moral constraint in regards to science which can somewhat be found in our world today. This immorality takes form in the Skaven’s disfigured bodies and noisome odor which affects many who come close to them. Just like the Nazis who conducted experiments with no ethical standards and killed many people, the Skaven carry out horrible experiments which yielded terrible amalgamations most notably the Hell-Pit Abomination, an atrocity responsible for the deaths of many. When technology takes a turn for the worst and science breaks through the barrier that is ethics, the Skaven are born in all their twisted and abhorrent glory. Simply put, the Skaven are a result of this world’s “scientific immorality” and the Warhammer world’s lack of predictability in terms of science and magic—and apparently plots since the WHOLE WORLD DIED.
